Learnwise is Griffith’s AI-powered assistant that helps students navigate university life. It can answer questions about your course, university services, and general study support.
How do I access Learnwise?
Learnwise is embedded in Learning@Griffith (Canvas) and accessible by clicking the “Help” button. You don’t need to install anything- just look for the Help button in the left-hand menu:
Is Learnwise available 24/7?
Yes, it’s always on. You can ask questions any time of day or night.
What Learnwise Can Do?
What kinds of questions can I ask?
You can ask about:
- Course content and expectations
- Assessment requirements
- Study tips and strategies
- Technical support (e.g., Wi-Fi, passwords)
- Campus services (e.g., counselling, library)
- Where to go for help if Learnwise can’t answer
Can Learnwise help with assignments?
Yes, it can clarify assignment instructions, explain academic terms, and help you understand referencing. It won’t write your assignment for you.
Can it generate quizzes or flashcards?
Yes! Learnwise can create practice quizzes based on your course content to help you revise.
Can I use Learnwise in other languages?
Yes. Learnwise supports over 100 languages and can translate between them during a conversation.
Limitations and Boundaries
What can’t Learnwise do?
- It can’t access unpublished or hidden Canvas content
- It doesn’t read PowerPoint slides or videos
- It won’t give personal academic advice
- It can’t replace human support for complex or sensitive issues
What happens if Learnwise doesn’t know the answer?
It will:
- Suggest who to contact (e.g., course convenor, IT support)
- Provide phone numbers or email addresses
Privacy and Safety
Is my data safe with Learnwise?
Yes. Griffith has completed a Privacy Impact Assessment and continues to review the platform and company to ensure compliance with security and privacy obligations.
Does Learnwise track what I say?
Conversations may be logged for quality improvement, however only a small number of specific staff with appropriate permissions and training have access to chat transcripts. This is in order to maintain the service and conduct improvement initiatives. Feedback is anonymised unless you choose to provide your details.
What if I ask something sensitive?
Learnwise has a well-being response framework. If you mention something serious (e.g., feeling unsafe or overwhelmed), it will guide you to appropriate support services.
Tips for Using Learnwise Effectively
How can I get the best answers from Learnwise?
- Be specific: “When is my 9100EPP_3251 assignment due?” is better than “When is my assignment?”
- Use keywords from your course or topic
- Try rephrasing if the first answer isn’t helpful
Can I give feedback on Learnwise?
Yes. There’s a built-in feedback tool, and Griffith provides a custom feedback loop so your suggestions go directly to the Griffith team responsible for delivering the Learnwise service.
Support and Escalation
What if I need help beyond Learnwise?
Learnwise will direct you to:
- IT Helpdesk for tech issues
- Student Support for well-being or accessibility
- Course convenors for academic questions
- Library staff for research help
Will Learnwise replace human support?
No. It’s designed to supplement—not replace—existing support services. It helps you self-serve for common questions and frees up staff to help with more complex needs.
