Take part in important research projects
Griffith is one of É«ÇéÍøÕ¾'s leading research universities. Our staff and students undertake research projects to better understand the world, improve people's lives and make a societal impact.
Each month, we publish a list of open research projects or surveys and ask our staff, student and alumni community to participate.
If you want to invite Griffith staff, students, alumni or HDR candidates to take part in your research, please submit an application to conduct research.

Maximising occupational therapy’s contribution to residential aged care |
---|---|
Types of volunteers |
Family members of residents of aged care facilities |
Description |
Do you have a loved one living in a residential aged care facility? Or do you know someone working in the industry? This project aims to understand barriers and enablers to maximising occupational therapy's contribution in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). Aged care reform presents substantial opportunity for the profession to practice under occupational therapy's unique philosophy to optimise health and well-being. This project will assist in ensuring this opportunity is being fulfilled by contributing to the evidence base of occupational therapy in RACFs. Of most significance, this research can provide recommendations that have the potential to positively influence the health and well-being of older adults living in É«ÇéÍøÕ¾n RACFs by maximising the contribution of occupational therapy. |
What is required and how long will it take? |
You will be invited to participate in a semi-structured interview of approximately 60 minutes in length. Depending on your preference, interviews can be conducted face-to-face or online via Teams. You will be asked to answer a range of open-ended questions in relation to occupational therapy’s contribution to residential aged care. |

CHILL BONES: Combining High-intensity Impact Loading and Lifting with mind-Body exercise for Optimisation of Nervous system and Skeletal health |
---|---|
Types of volunteers |
People over 60 years who may have low bone density and are not currently taking bone medications. If you are unsure whether you have low bone density, we will check by performing a scan as you enter into the study - this will form part of the eligibility criteria. We are looking for people who are keen to participate in exercise, and who are willing to commit to the full 8 months of training! |
Description |
Interested in a free exercise program designed to improve bone health? Our research is focused on understanding the potential influence of stress on bone health. We are running a clinical trial that investigates the effectiveness of mind-body exercise, resistance training, and the combination of these modalities, for the treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis. |
What is required and how long will it take? |
Participants will be required to attend an initial screening assessment which includes bone density and body composition scans, which help to determine their eligibility for the exercise trial. Participants will also complete some basic tests of balance and strength. Every participant will have their blood pressure and heart rate monitored (non-invasively) during some simple breathing tests which enables us to learn about their physiological stress response. The initial assessment takes approximately 2 hours. |
Incentive |
Participants will receive FREE bone density and body composition scans. If you meet the eligibility criteria for inclusion in the exercise trial, you will receive 8-months of free exercise. These participants will also receive a $30 gift voucher to compensate for time and travel. |

Lights Out Online: Examining the Efficacy of Therapist Assistance via Videoconference |
---|---|
Types of volunteers |
Participants need to be aged 18 years or over and be the parent of a child with sleep difficulties who is aged between 3 – 6 years, does not have an intellectual or a developmental disorder (e.g., autism or developmental delay), is not receiving any treatment from a psychologist or a psychiatrist for their sleep problem and has not started or changed any medications for sleep in the last 6 weeks. |
Description |
The Lights Out Online Program teaches parents strategies for tackling their child’s sleep problems. The program consists of 4 sessions designed to empower parents with evidence based strategies developed by psychologists and paediatric sleep researchers to improve their child’s sleep and help families find a new night-time normal. Researchers at Griffith University are currently evaluating the Lights Out Online Program in a self-help format. However, as part of the evaluation, we are seeking 40 parents of children aged 3-6 years with current sleep problems to participate in a study where parents may receive not only the online program, but also a video conferenced therapist supported version of the online program. The seven-week program with videoconferenced therapist support will be provided free of charge to eligible participants. If you are interested in participating, please use the link below to answer some questions that will determine whether the Lights Out Online Program might be helpful to you and your family. |
What is required and how long will it take? |
Participants will be asked to complete a brief online eligibility questionnaire (5 minutes). Eligible individuals will be asked to read the study information sheet and provide their consent, after which they will continue to complete another brief questionnaire (max. 10 minutes) to provide their contact and demographic details and answer questions about their child's sleep habits. If the results indicate that their child has a sleep problem, they will be directed to an online booking system to schedule a 15-minute phone call with a research team member to confirm eligibility and receive more information about the study. After the phone call, participants will be asked to complete an online questionnaire battery (15 mins) about their child's sleep, anxiety, and behaviour, as well as the their own sleep, mental health, and parenting satisfaction. Participants will then be randomly allocated to START NOW or START LATER group. The START NOW group will receive access to the 4-session online program with the addition of videoconferenced therapist support (1 x 30- and 3 x 15-minute consultations) following the telephone interview and completion of the first questionnaire. Participants will complete the program over 7 weeks. The START LATER group will receive access to the 4-session online self-help program after a 3-month waiting period, and can complete the program at their own pace. To assess the program, participants will be asked to complete a final online questionnaire 3 months after their initial start date, and if allocated to the START NOW group, they will also complete a 30-minute exit interview that will ask about their satisfaction with the program. |

Development of Questions to be Asked to a Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Cancer Care Artificial Intelligence Chatbot |
---|---|
Types of volunteers |
Inclusion criteria: Current or previous cancer diagnosis; Caring/cared for a person with a current or previous cancer diagnosis; Health professionals working in a cancer care setting; Age ≥ 18y/o; Provide consent to participate in the study. Exclusion criteria: Unable to provide informed consent; Inability to complete the questionnaire; Non-English speaking; Age ≤18y/o. |
Description |
In two phases, this study will investigate the impact of the use of an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot for the provision of evidence-based information, on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use in people with cancer. In this first phase of the study, the information collected will be used to inform the questions that will be asked of the CAMs in Cancer AI Chatbot in the second phase. Furthermore, the results of this study will go on to inform future research into the use of CAMs in people with cancer, contribute to the development of patient educational resources and ultimately improve patient outcomes. |
What is required and how long will it take? |
Research participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire via Lime Survey. The survey will first ask the participant to consent to participate in the study and then request information regarding what they would like/would have liked to know about CAMs in cancer care. In addition, some demographic information will be requested. The survey is expected to take 15-20 minutes to complete. |
