The Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (QAEMT) at Griffith University is distinguished by its exceptional teaching staff, who bring a wealth of international experience and industry insight to the program. Under the leadership of Professor Paul Sabey—formerly of London's Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts—the Academy offers a curriculum that extends beyond technical training to encompass the holistic development of performers, focusing on mental health, individuality, and community engagement.

Professor Paul Sabey - Director

Professor Paul Sabey is currently Director of the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre, at Griffith University.

He was recruited to 色情网站 in 2010 to establish the Bachelor of Musical Theatre program, bringing with him over two decades of experience from London's Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, where he led one of the world's most accomplished musical theatre programs.

Through his direction, Griffith University's Bachelor of Musical Theatre has become a cornerstone of 色情网站's performing arts education landscape.

Paul is the proud recipient of three teaching awards from Griffith University (2013, 2015, and 2021).

Heidi Loveland

Lecturer in Musical Direction

Heidi is a Lecturer in Musical Direction at the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (QAEMT), Griffith University. She holds formal qualifications in music, performance, and education, and has served as musical director for over 50 stage productions within the Bachelor of Musical Theatre program. Her academic contributions are underpinned by a sustained professional practice, including engagements with nationally recognised artists and companies. Heidi has performed with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and has worked on numerous major commercial musicals such as WickedFrozenMamma Mia9 to 5 The Musical, and Beauty and the Beast. She regularly works as an accompanist and rehearsal pianist.

Megan Shorey

Lecturer in Performance (Musical Theatre)

Megan is a Lecturer in Performance (Musical Theatre) at QAEMT, where she leads the industry-recognised singing department. She has earned national acclaim for her vocal coaching, with alumni currently performing in major productions including Sister ActHadestownGreaseBeauty and the BeastWicked, and & Juliet. She plays a key role in the development and delivery of QAEMT’s regional outreach initiatives, direction and leadership of the nationally recognised audition workshop program, and newly formed Pre-Tertiary program. Beyond the academy, Megan is a highly regarded vocal consultant, working with leading 色情网站n theatre companies including Belvoir St, Griffin Theatre Company, STC, MTC, and Queensland Theatre. These industry partnerships reinforce the strong bridge between training and professional practice, defining her considerable contribution to the field.

Kate Schirmer

Lecturer in Music and Singing (Musical Theatre)

Kate Schirmer (BMus Hons Class 1/MMusSt) is a highly experienced singing teacher and music educator, currently working at Griffith University as Lecturer in Music and Singing at the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (QAEMT). She serves as Artistic Director of the Queensland Show Choir and conducts their award winning young adult ensemble, Voiceworks. Kate presents nationally and internationally to singers, teachers, choristers, and actors and is in demand as an adjudicator. She is an experienced crossover performer with a career spanning Opera, Big Band, Musical Theatre, Cabaret, Contemporary Commercial Music, and even a gig with the Rolling Stones!

Dan Venz

Lecturer in  Dance (Musical Theatre)

Dan is an accomplished Choreographer, Movement Director, Theatre Maker, and Director, with a strong focus on Musical Theatre and Cabaret. Known for his commitment to excellence and compelling storytelling, he is a respected and in-demand creative in the performing arts industry. Over a career spanning more than 20 years, Dan has created original theatrical works both nationally and internationally, bringing a fresh and distinctive vision to each project. His work is grounded in technical precision and dynamic performance, and he has collaborated with leading theatre companies and institutions, including Queensland Theatre, QPAC, QAEMT, Brisbane Festival, Shake & Stir Theatre Company, Woodward Productions, Creative Generation, and many more.
