Transport Equity for All
We are currently looking for two PhD candidate to Join 色情网站n Research Council’s Future Fellow Project Transport Equity for All.
In the face of climate change and growing inequity, the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11.2 - Transport Equity and the 色情网站n Government identifies transport as a key priority in future proofing suburbs, cities, and regions to promote inclusion, resilience, and wellbeing, while reducing carbon emissions. Transport equity acknowledges that differences exist between groups, and actions are needed to ensure the most disadvantaged have what they need to access and participate. This is essential for the 4.4 million (18%) 色情网站ns with disabilities as transport equity is essential to achieving full participation (UN Convention on the Rights Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD)).
Despite transport equity scholarship and policy development rapidly growing to aid this work, there are major scholarly and practice challenges. This project seeks to help address significant gaps through a transformative research approach aiming to build knowledge of disability-informed transport equity and build sector capacity by co-creating with transport planners and people with disabilities fit-for-purpose resources to promote and apply equity in transport planning.
Each candidate will have the opportunity to undertake their own research project to progress transport equity for diverse people with disabilities and complex health conditions. These projects will focus on one of the following areas:
- Planning regional transport to promote equity, inclusion, and regional sustainability.
- Integrating transport equity in local area / precinct level planning to promote inclusive climate resilient movement and place.
- Transport policy to better advance pedestrian and public transport mobility-related asset planning, investment, and management
In your application, please identify which project area you would like to focus on and provide a short proposal (1 page). We encourage mixed-methods and inclusive approach to research.
Success in this role requires an applied focus that seek to help close the gaps in applying transport equity in decision making and practice. You will also be required to work with cross sectors including transport, government and people with disabilities.

This pioneering research initiative unites leading academic experts from various disciplines and fosters an interdisciplinary alliance that includes people with disabilities, researchers, industry professionals, government representatives, and practitioners. Together, we aim to reduce impairments, enhance participation, and redefine the landscape of disability.
Inclusive Futures Hub an online platform where people with disability can participate in research, engage with researchers and projects, and drive innovations. The Hub now supports a growing community of 500+ citizens with disability and has hosted 20+ major projects and published 50+ news articles.
Successful applicants will be based at Griffith University at either the Gold Coast or Brisbane South (Nathan).
The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background.

- Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, a bachelors degree with honours equivalent to first class honours or a Masters degree (AQF Level 9) incorporating a significant research component of a standard comparable to a bachelor honours degree or be regarded by Griffith University as having an equivalent level of attainment in accordance with Schedule One of the . Please note:
- Applicants with experience in urban planning, transport planning, urban -transport policy, community transport, social infrastructure is desirable.
- One of the scholarships will be specific for a person with disability or complex health conditions. Please indicate if you seek to apply for this affirmative role.
International applicants should ensure that English Language Proficiency requirements for the program are met before formally applying. Applicants to research programs will need to show they meet:
- A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS (Academic) with no band score less than 6.0 OR
- A minimum score of 575 on the paper-based TOEFL including a score of no less than 5.0 on the TWE OR
- A score of 79 on the internet-based (iBT) TOEFL with no sub-score less than 19
The 2025 Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship has an annual stipend of $34,752 (indexed) for a period of up to three years of full-time study. Please see the GUPRS Conditions of Award for more information.
