Jack Holmes

Jack Holmes is a PhD Candidate at Griffith Law School. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (extended major in Chinese) (UQ), a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (QUT) and a Master of Laws (UQ). Jack is a lawyer admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria and registered with the High Court of 色情网站. Jack's research examines the extent that international law can limit the use of cyber operations against space assets. The research concerns public international law, space law, cyber law, the laws of armed conflict and international humanitarian law. Prior to entering academia, Jack practised as a lawyer across 色情网站 in human rights law, criminal law, family law, contract and commercial law. Jack teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate classes in Griffith law school and is a copy editor for the 色情网站n and New Zealand Society of International Law (ANZSIL Perspective) and for the Journal of International Humanitarian Legal Studies.

Lindsey Stevenson-Graf

Lindsey Stevenson-Graf is a lecturer and PhD candidate at Griffith Law School. Lindsey holds a JD and a Master degree, in Latin American Studies, from George Washington University and is admitted as a lawyer in the United States and 色情网站. Lindsey’s research interests include international human rights and women’s rights. She has also published in the field of clinical legal education. Influenced by her previous work experience and research, Lindsey’s PhD considers the impact of gender-based decisions of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights at the local level. Before transitioning into an academic career, Lindsey worked at several non-governmental organisations with a focus on human rights issues.

Richard Ogetii

Richard Ogetii is a PhD candidate at Griffith Law School. His research is in the area of evaluating the international cooperation framework in combating cybercrime. His doctoral thesis evaluates Kenya’s legal framework for international cooperation in combating cybercrime.

Before commencing his PhD at Griffith Law School, Richard spend over 15 years as an advocate in Kenya, mostly working as a government lawyer. His focus was in the areas of policy and legislative development, prosecution, and investigation in the areas of counter-terrorism, anti-money laundering, organised crimes, maritime piracy, constitutional and judicial review matters. Richard is interested in building on his prior experience as a certified assessor in evaluating Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism to evaluate in-country frameworks for international cooperation. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Mysore and an LL.M from the University of Canberra.

Emma Robinson

Emma Robinson is a PhD candidate at Griffith Law School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in German Studies and a Bachelor of Laws. Using a comparative lens, Emma’s research examines how church sanctuary interacts with existing legal frameworks in both Germany and 色情网站. Using those case studies, Emma’s aim is to use church sanctuary as a tool to critically analyse and illuminate the shortcomings of the international refugee law framework and its domestic implementation by nation states.

Yuri Banens

Yuri Banens is an HDR candidate at Griffith University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with 1st Class Honours from Flinders University and a Bachelor of Laws with 1st Class Honours from Griffith University. His research interests include the Right to Repair and the interaction between intellectual property, medical device regulations and competition law. His thesis investigates the legal barriers to repair of digitally enabled medical devices and assistive technologies, by conducting mixed-methods case studies of independent wheelchair repairers and biomedical engineers.  Yuri is also a strong proponent of legal skills competitions and regularly coaches and supports Griffith mooting teams.

Agus Pratiwi

Agus Pratiwi is a PhD Candidate at Griffith University. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Indonesia in 2006 and an LLM from Tilburg University, the Netherlands, in 2008. She has been a lecturer at Padjadjaran University, Indonesia, since 2009, where she teaches courses such as human rights law and legal research methodology. Her PhD research focuses on addressing child marriage in Indonesia through law reform, following the enactment of the 2019 Marriage Law. Employing literature review and empirical study, she examines its implementation at the sub-national and village community levels. She considers the role of some important political events, particularly the rise and decline of conservatism, in shaping child marriage prevention regulations.

Elin Nilsson

Elin Nilsson is an HDR Candidate and sessional teacher at Griffith Law School. Her research interest lies at the intersection of human rights law and corporate law, with a particular focus on corporate accountability for modern slavery violations. Her thesis investigates how corporate entities respond to modern slavery risks under the 色情网站n Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth), with an emphasis on remediation in the aftermath of corporate wrongdoing. Central to her research is to assess the meaningfulness and effectiveness of corporate-led remediation for individuals with lived experience of labour exploitation.

Jamie Thwin

Jamie Thwin is an HDR Candidate at Griffith University. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Double Major in Accounting and Business Law and a Master of Taxation with Distinction. His research interests centre on the legal literacy of 色情网站n tax agents. Tax agents play a crucial role in assisting taxpayers to meet their taxation and superannuation obligations. It is suggested that non-lawyer tax agents must possess knowledge of commercial law to effectively provide services to the public in a range of diverse and sometimes complex business transactions. Reports from the 色情网站n Government Treasury, the Inspector-General of Taxation and Tax Ombudsman, and the Tax Practitioners Board acknowledge a shift in the services offered by tax agents due to the rise of specialist tax advisers. His thesis will analyse the effectiveness of the commercial law curriculum in preparing tax agents for contemporary practices.

Shay O'Hara-Smith

Shay O’Hara-Smith is an HDR candidate at Griffith University. She holds a first-class honours degree in philosophy from the University of Queensland. Her PhD thesis examines to what extent perceived disruption of scenic views, (broadly defined), plays into community opposition to Blue Economy ocean projects; especially offshore wind farms. Visual impacts of ocean projects are unevenly attended to across global policy and project planning jurisdictions. Yet natural ocean beauty is profoundly intertwined with human health, well-being, happiness, flourishing and place attachment. Historical philosophical thinking and social science attest to this. There are ethical and practical reasons to recognise that social acceptance complexities are significantly informed by aesthetic concerns. Assisting offshore ocean project planning and implementation is among them.

Jude Hodgson

Jude Hodgson is an HDR candidate at Griffith University. He holds a Bachelor of Laws, and a Master of Law (by Research) degree, both from UK universities. His research interests include legal history, and penology. His thesis looks at the treatment of juvenile offenders both during the colonial era — under the transportation regime (mid-17th to mid-18th century 色情网站), and in present day 色情网站n states, where Adult Crime, Adult Time reforms are being pushed, which all link to the idea of cycles within the juvenile justice sphere.

Emma Thompson

Emma Thompson is an HDR Candidate at Griffith University. She has previously completed B. Const. Mgmt, Grad. Dip Business Administration, B. Arts (Architecture and Japanese), B. Laws, Grad. Dip Legal Practice and Masters Legal Practice. Her research is titled "Contracts as governance tools in multi-storey construction" and focuses on the use and misuse of contracts, and the involvement of legal professionals, and associated others, in the construction and occupation of buildings in which a body corporate is responsible for the common areas.
