A tardy arrival to class rarely changes lives, but for Greg Sax, that late entrance to a lecture had him sitting towards the back, right behind Tegan Sax. What began as an apologetic "excuse me" soon sparked a conversation about the upcoming Leisure Studies Ball that Greg was organising.
"I wasn't actually planning to attend," Tegan recalls with a smile, "but something about his enthusiasm was infectious." Those initial conversations blossomed into dates between classes, study sessions that ran late into the evening, and eventually, a romance that has stood the test of time.
Greg and Tegan both began their Bachelor of Leisure Management at Griffith University in 1995. Tegan graduated in 1998, while Greg completed his studies in 2005.
After graduation, the pair embarked on the backpacking adventure many graduates dream of, exploring Canada and the USA and a quick stop in Paris on the way home where they returned with fresh perspectives and ambitions. They exchanged vows soon after, cementing a partnership that started during uni working on group assignments together, and ended with them working together throughout most of their career.
During their early professional careers, both Greg and Tegan maintained strong connections to their Griffith networks, often finding themselves in positions to recommend fellow alumni for roles. "We knew there was incredible talent from within our course and when we had the opportunity to do so, we organised interviews for our classmates."
This partnership ultimately led the couple to establish Shine People Solutions, an Indigenous-owned and operated recruitment firm dedicated to advancing the careers of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professionals across 色情网站.
"Our Griffith experience taught us the value of hard work, community, and connection," Tegan explains. "Now we're applying those same principles to bridge the gap between Indigenous talent and corporate 色情网站."
Today, their company has placed hundreds of professionals in roles across various industries, creating pathways for Indigenous 色情网站ns while changing workplace cultures. Their client list includes major corporations and government departments committed to meaningful diversity and inclusivity.
From that serendipitous meeting in a Griffith lecture hall to becoming influential champions for Indigenous employment, Greg and Tegan's journey embodies the university's ethos of creating positive change, proof that sometimes, being late to class can lead you to exactly where you need to be.
