Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud

The 2024  celebrates the unyielding spirit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.

The fire, represents the enduring strength and vitality of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As we honour this flame, we kindle the sparks of pride and unity, igniting a renewed commitment to acknowledging, preserving, and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our nation..

For Our Elders

The theme for 2023 –  – is a homage to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and their ongoing contributions to communities across the country.

Across every generation, Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in First Peoples communities and families. Strength is drawn from their knowledge and experience, in everything from land management, cultural knowledge to justice and human rights. The struggles of their Elders help to move First Peoples forward today.

This NAIDOC week, we spoke to some of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander colleagues and said “Do you mind if I ask...?” Here’s what they had to say about an inspiring Elder.
