Working title of Thesis: Ecoscenographic Placemaking: an evolving, place-responsive approach to creative process.

Supervisor/s: Dr. Tanja Beer, Dr. Linda Hassall, Dr. Daniel Della-Bosca, Dr. Rae Cooper

Elevator Pitch: This interdisciplinary research explores the processes involved in creating place-sensitive works that elevate local culture, social dynamics and environmental attributes. It is positioned at the intersection of ecoscenography and creative placemaking, exploring how storytelling, ecological design for performance and place-based artistic engagement can promote a place-responsive approach to creative processes. Through immersive experiences, the study investigates the benefits of adopting more-than-human perspectives in addressing pressing global challenges such as ongoing ecological degradation, mass migrations, and social injustices. The aim is to move beyond a human-centric worldview, deepening the understanding of the interconnectedness between living entities and their environments. This heightened awareness and recognition of our role within the broader ecological system forge a more profound relationship with places we inhabit—one that reinforces our coexistence, encourages sustainable practices, and contributes to a culture of ecological stewardship.
